If you haven’t been living under the rock, you’d know that Chinese president Xi Jinping is on a three-day landmark visit to the UAE- his first foreign visit after being re-elected in March this year.

This historic meetup is not only limited to political and economic issues, but extends to strenghtening cultural, social and educational aspects that will further cement UAE-China relations.

Needless to say the UAE is in a celebratory mode and has gone above and beyond to make President Jinping feel welcome.

2. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, posted a series of tweets in CHINESE in honour of President Xi Jinping.

“The United Arab Emirates warmly welcomes Chinese President Xi Jinping, his first visit abroad after his re-election. This visit is precious and historically significant, laying the foundation of a new strategic partnership between our two countries.”

“The trade between the UAE and China reached Dh200 billion in 2017, accounting for nearly a quarter of all trades between China and the Arab world. More than a million Chinese tourists visited the UAE last year. We have tens of billions of dollars in joint ventures in petroleum, renewable energy, infrastructure, science and technology industries, and we strive to double these numbers in the near future.”

“The UAE is the first Gulf country to establish a strategic partnership with China, and we signed multiple agreements on regional and international fronts. We strive towards the consolidation of cultural, civil and humanitarian partnerships in addition to our strong political and economic ties.”

4. The Chinese President Xi Jinping was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum along with other cabinet ministers and dignitaries were present at the ceremony.
