Abu Dhabi is building a new 11km bridge to connect multiple islands in the city! This superhighway will ease traffic congestion and enhance quality of life in the capital.

His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan inaugurated the 11km bridge

The Umm Yifeenah Bridge is in its first phase, and will ultimately link Al Reem Island and Saadiyat Island, Al Raha Beach and Khalifa City.

Also, the six-lane highway can accommodate 6,000 journeys per hour in each direction (12,000 per hour in total).

The larger network of the 11km bridge is planned for completion by 2028

This Umm Yifeenah Bridge will include cycle tracks, walking trails and incorporate sustainable landscapes. Additionally, it will provide vistas of the natural environment of the area and Abu Dhabi’s skyline.

The DMT and Aldar have implemented a number of sustainability measures to preserve the natural environment in the area surrounding the project. Also, they’ve included the use of precast concrete elements and arch-shaped causeways. This is to ensure water flow and minimise adverse impact on mangrove wetlands around the 11km bridge.
