Major throwback! Images of the Al Maqta Bridge circulated all over twitter. They weren’t just any images though, they were images of the bridge from the 1960’s!

@AssadElAbbas1 posted an image of the construction of Al Maqta Bridge from 1965

His tweet explains the process of construction of the bridge in 1965. It reads as follows:

“Segment Bridge Consultant Brian Colquhoun and Main Contractor, Canadian Consult Corporation. Consult was led by Canadian engineer Bob Wenzel. The first contracting project of the Consort company was in Abu Dhabi in 1965. The sub-contractor for metal works is Wagner Bureau. Santa Fe supplied her with cranes. Completed in 1967 and opened on 6/8/1968.”

Following this tweet, @a_aassii responded with an image of the late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed on the bridge in 1968

The tweet explained the image, as it also stated that the late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed was praying on the bridge. His Highness Sheikh Zayed was praying alongside Ahmed Khalifa Al Suwaidi in 1968.

@ManalBinAmro shared an image of Al Maqta Bridge as a snapshot memorialising the maintenance and rehabilitation of the bridge

Additionally, she posted a current image of the bridge and how it looks in the present day
