You’re invited to explore the beating heart of Paris as it transformed into a hub for creatives

The exhibition introduces Paris at the turn of the 20th Century, at a time when an influx of foreign painters, sculptors and photographers – many of them women –from Europe, Asia and the Americas descended on the French capital. Driven from their countries but welcomed in Paris, this was a cultural moment when artistic freedom and the creative exchange of ideas was supported by a liberal French regime at the time.

You’ll see Fauvism pieces, one of the first avant-garde movements

Inspired by Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, fauvism is the style of Les Fauves, a movement known for its intense and bright palettes.

You’ll also see works from the cubism movement

The exhibit brings work from Pablo Picasso to the UAE, Young Girl with a Hoop (1919) will be on display along with Juan Gris’ Still Life on a Chair, (1917) both part of the cubism movement.

Paris in the 20s was a flurry of artistic activity, centred around one district

Montmartre, and the Montparnasse district, both meeting points for artists, writers and poets. The feeling of the moment is captured in works such as Alfred Flechtheim dressed as a Toreador, 1925.

The important bits:
