The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo has touched down in Abu Dhabi to discuss escalated tensions in the region, following an attack on a prominent Saudi oil facility.
Earlier today, the UAE publicly announced it would join Saudi and the US in an effort to protect International Maritime Security, following recent events which ‘underscore the importance of protecting global commerce and freedom of navigation’.
Mr Pompeo was met by UAE dignitaries and is scheduled to meet with HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces later today for talks.

The UAE wants to deter threats to maritime navigation and global trade, and make sure that energy supplies are being secured so as the global economy stays well-maintained for a more balanced peace and security worldwide, Salem Mohammed Al Zaabi, Director of the International Security Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation stated.
The alliance was formed to protect its member’s security.
