Abu Dhabi International Airport Has Been Renamed Zayed International Airport; A Tribute To UAE’s Founding Father
Starting today, February 9, Abu Dhabi International Airport is getting a shiny new name – it’s now officially known as Zayed International Airport.
The change comes as a tribute to the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, with the directive coming from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in honor of his father.
To mark the occasion, there was a grand ceremony attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, where the new name was unveiled. And that’s not all – the airport’s new Terminal A was also officially opened, adding to the excitement of the day.
The rebranding isn’t just about a new name – it’s a whole new identity that celebrates Abu Dhabi’s rich culture and history. The airport’s new logo draws inspiration from iconic symbols like the traditional dhow boat, date palm tree, desert sun, and the historic Qasr Al Hosn Fort, as well as the stunning new Terminal A itself.
And if you’re wondering about the facilities, Zayed International Airport has got you covered. Terminal A is a massive facility spanning over 742,000 square meters, with enough space to cater to 11,000 passengers per hour. Plus, there’s top-notch biometric technology to make the screening and boarding process a breeze, along with plenty of retail and dining options spread across 35,000 square meters.
Since Terminal A became fully operational, Zayed International Airport has been buzzing with activity. In just the first 60 days, the airport welcomed a whopping 4.48 million passengers, with flights heading to 117 destinations worldwide.
The inaugural commercial flight from Terminal A took off on October 31, 2023, bound for New Delhi, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Zayed International Airport.
