A man in Abu Dhabi faced a shocking surprise: a huge credit card bill for a card he never owned.
The card racked up over AED 200,000 in charges, according to Emarat Al Youm.
It turned out that someone had forged his signature and opened the account. A bank employee had falsely confirmed the man was present during the application. The impersonator was later convicted.

The Abu Dhabi Commercial Court ruled that the bank was negligent. It failed to properly check the man’s identity and signature. The bank also did not keep the necessary paperwork. An expert confirmed the bank did not follow basic procedures for processing the account and transactions.
Because of this, the court decided the man was not responsible for the AED 200,527 in charges. The bank was ordered to cancel all claims and compensate him for financial and reputational damage, including the impact on his credit record. It also must cover his legal fees.
