Drivers trying to game the toll system were caught!
Abu Dhabi Police recently put a spotlight on some crafty drivers trying to skirt around toll fees. These motorists were caught on camera pulling over just before toll gates, patiently waiting for the free-pass hours to kick in. This risky behaviour not only creates traffic chaos but also puts everyone on the road in danger.
The Directorate of Traffic and Security Patrols in Abu Dhabi took a firm stance, urging drivers to avoid stopping on road shoulders unless it is a genuine emergency. Advanced smart surveillance systems played a key role in detecting these deliberate violations, especially around the Darb toll gates. Authorities observed drivers intentionally pausing their journeys, aiming to enter the gates once the toll-free period began.
Beyond simply stopping at toll gates, the police highlighted several other hazardous behaviours observed on the roads. These included sudden and unannounced lane changes, which can lead to dangerous situations. Obstructing traffic flow was also noted as a significant concern, further emphasising the need for safer driving practices from all motorists.
Motorists received a clear reminder of the penalties associated with these violations, as outlined in Ministerial Resolution Number one hundred seventy-eight of 2017. For instance, a sudden deviation from a lane comes with a hefty fine of AED1000 United Arab Emirates dirhams and four black points. Unauthorised use of bus stops or special lanes also incurs a fine of AED400 United Arab Emirates dirhams.

Abu Dhabi Police reinforced their commitment to road safety, emphasising that all such violations are under vigilant watch through advanced smart systems. Legal action will be swiftly pursued to maintain safety and ensure the seamless movement of vehicles throughout the emirate. This ongoing monitoring aims to keep roads safe for everyone.
