AED 100,000 Fine And One Year In Jail For UAE Drivers Who Flee From Accident Scene

Have you ever witnessed an accident where the motorist responsible for the incident flees from the scene? Or have you ever been party to the same? UAE authorities have announced strict action against those who do not obey the rules.
UAE’s Ministry of Interior, along with police departments across the Emirates, have warned of serious penalties for any driver who runs away from the scene after being involved in an accident.

All accidents in the UAE must be reported within three hours

Anyone found guilty of the following violations may face imprisonment for up to one year and/or a fine ranging from AED 50,000 to AED 100,000:

  • Not stopping at the scene without a valid excuse
  • Failing to provide information that could assist in determining the circumstances of the accident
  • Evading the police when instructed to stop
  • Deliberately colliding with traffic enforcement, military, or security vehicles

Motorists, make sure to read all the rules posted on the official UAE Government Portal.

It is a legal obligation to report all accidents to the respective police departments of all emirates

The new Federal Traffic and Road Safety Law, effective from the beginning of 2025, requires all motorists involved in a traffic accident to report the incident to the police or an authority approved by the traffic control body, using any officially approved method, within no more than three hours.

The UAE Government Portal specified that the Ministry of Interior and police departments across the country have provided multiple digital and smart channels for reporting accidents and determining whether emergency services such as ambulances are required.

Lastly, remember residents can also call the emergency number 999 from anywhere in the UAE.
