Failing To Stop For School Buses In Abu Dhabi Will Cost Drivers AED 1,000

Heads up, folks!

Abu Dhabi Police urges drivers to come to a full stop when a school bus extends its “STOP” sign — even from the opposite lane

This reminder comes as part of the awareness series Darb Al Salama 2, which highlights real-life traffic scenarios and how to handle them safely. When that red “STOP” arm comes out, it’s not a suggestion — it’s the law.

When a school bus extends its red “STOP” sign, you must stop completely — from both directions — and keep at least 5 meters away.

Ignore it, and you’re looking at:

  • AED 1,000 fine
  • 10 black points

Children can be unpredictable

They might suddenly run across the street, even from behind the bus. Inching forward or trying to sneak past is not just impatient; it is dangerous.

With thousands of kids relying on school buses, their safety is a top priority — and that includes your responsibility as a driver.
