Iranian forces have been tharwted in an attempt to reportedly seize a British oil tanker in the *Strait of Hormuz.

A British Heritage tanker was approached by five armed Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to CNN. The tanker was ordered to divert course into Iranian territorial waters, however a British Navy ship, which was escorting the ship from the rear, gave an order to the Iranian ships to back away, according to the report.

The report states there is video footage of the incident, captured by US officials, which has yet to be released.

The move follows similar incidents in the popular shipping route

*The Strait of Hormuz is a sea passage located between the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. It’s the only route from the Arabian Gulf to the open ocean and it’s the primary connection for oil from the Middle East to the rest of the world.
