Matthew Hedges was detained at Dubai International Airport in May on suspicion of spying, after he reportedly sought out sensitive information about the UAE.

An Abu Dhabi court has found him guilty and he will reportedly serve a life sentence. Hedges’ lawyer was not present at the trial, according to the reports.

Hedges denied all charges.

A life sentence in the UAE consists of up to 25 years in jail, followed by deportation for non-Emiratis.
