The man who bought the number 1 licence plate in Abu Dhabi has been jailed for three years after writing a dud cheque, and the Abu Dhabi Court of Appeals has upheld the ruling.
The Emirati man, who bid AED31 million for the coveted number plate reportedly wrote out the cheque, which bounced due to insufficient funds.
The matter was reported to authorities, who questioned the man, who confessed that he knew when he issued the cheque, that it would bounce.
The Emirati man confessed that he was planning to sell the number plate at a later date for a profit.
The man has had his three-year sentence upheld.
