The UAE And The US Confirmed They Will Stand Side By Side Against Challenges Facing The Region


On Monday evening, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Abu Dhabi where he was greeted by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Pompeo had announced earlier in the day that he was en route to the UAE for strategic talks amid escalating Iran-US tensions.

According to Government news agency, H.H. Sheikh Mohamed discussed further consolidating the friendship and strategic ties between the two countries, along with views on recent regional and international developments which have posed a threat to the region.

They ‘reiterated that both countries are standing side by side toward the challenges besetting the region’

They discussed the need for freedom in the Strait of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz is a popular international shipping route where two tankers were recently attacked. The US and Saudi accused Iran for the attacks.

Following this meeting Pompeo will visit Saudi for further talks
