Every second of Pope Francis’ visit to the UAE has been under the spotlight.
His Holiness performed a public mass to over 135k people in Zayed Sports City Abu Dhabi today, before departing for Rome this afternoon.
The Pontiff was originally invited by UAE leaders to participate in a meeting of religions, and during the 48-hour trip he was presented with a significant gift.
At the meeting at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi, the Pontiff was gifted with a box containing the original deed which was issued in 1963, by the late Sheikh Shakhbut bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a former ruler of Abu Dhabi.
The head of the Catholic Church departed the country for Rome this afternoon.
It was signed by the Pope, UAE leaders and His Eminence Dr. Ahmad el-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al Azhar Al Sharif. The declaration seeks to build bridges of love, amity and coexistence among peoples. Sheikh Mohamed was presented with a copy of the Declaration from the Pope before his departure.
