Last week, it was announced Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church will visit the UAE in the new year.
A mass will take place to mark the visit; ‘arrangements are being put in place in order to make it possible for a maximum of our faithful to participate in this historic event,’ according to Bishop Paul Hinder Vicar Apostolic in the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia, via an announcement video.
The landmark visit is taking place between February 3 and February 5 and shows an important friendship between Muslims and Catholics and the UAE’s openness towards other religions.
UAE leaders and Bishop Paul Hinder announced the visit to the public after Pope Francis accepted the invitation of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi to participate in the International Inter-Faith meeting on ‘Human Fraternity’.
The location of the mass is yet to be confirmed, however a detailed schedule of the visit will be published before Christmas.
