How does it work?

Ramadan follows the lunar Hijri calendar, which is about 10 to 11 days shorter than the solar calendar, so the month gradually shifts through the seasons. In 2026, this places Ramadan in late February and March, when daylight hours are more moderate compared to the long summer days.

Fasting hours across the country are expected to range from 12 to 14 hours. At the start of the month, fasts will be on the shorter side, gradually increasing as the month progresses. Northern emirates may experience slightly longer fasting times than Abu Dhabi due to geographical differences.

With shorter days, Iftar will come earlier, around 6:19-6:33pm in Abu Dhabi. Suhoor will end between 5:00-5:20am at the start of Ramadan.

Ramadan is expected to begin on Thursday, February 19, and last 30 days

Eid Al Fitr likely on Saturday, March 21, pending the official moon sighting. This year, shorter fasting times make it easier to plan daily routines, meals, and prayers while still observing the holy month fully.
