The UAE’s Education Ministry just dropped some big news: school cafeterias across the country will no longer be selling (or even allowing!) unhealthy and processed foods.
That means no mortadella sandwiches, sausages, instant noodles, soft drinks, chocolate bars, chips, cakes, or those sugary packaged snacks that kids love sneaking in. Even peanuts and peanut butter are off the list because of allergy risks.
Experts say unhealthy diets can affect kids’ physical and mental health, and even hurt their focus in class. The numbers tell the story: a recent study found that one in three Emirati children is overweight, and 17% are classified as obese.

The ministry says it wants schools to be places where healthy habits grow, not where bad ones start. The focus is on giving kids the right fuel for their bodies and brains—because better food means better energy, better focus, and better grades.
Looks like it’s time for carrot sticks and apple slices to shine!
