If you’re applying for a US visa, there’s an important update you need to be aware of.
Now, all nonimmigrant visa applicants must have their interviews in their home country or country of residence. The previous option to book interviews in third countries — often chosen because of shorter wait times — is no longer allowed.

You’ll need to prove that you live in the country where you’re applying. If you try applying outside your home country or residence, it might be harder to qualify for a US visa. Plus, if your application is denied, the fees won’t be refunded or transferable.

If you apply outside your home country or residence, expect longer waits for interview slots. That said, if you already have a visa appointment booked, it usually won’t be canceled.
Some visa categories are exempt from this rule, such as diplomatic visas, official travel visas, and rare humanitarian or emergency cases.
