This Ramadan Initiative Turns A Clinical Number Into A Global Call To Act

Ramadan in the UAE isn’t just about reflection… it’s about action. And this year, the mission is bigger than ever: 5 million children. That’s the goal.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has launched 11.5: Edge of Life, a global Ramadan campaign aiming to rescue five million children from hunger

The urgency is real. Every minute, 5 children under five die from hunger and malnutrition. Globally, 45% of deaths in children under five are linked to malnutrition.

Why “11.5”?

It’s not just a number.

11.5 cm is the critical mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measurement used by health workers to detect severe acute malnutrition in children between six months and five years old.

Below 11.5 cm means a child is in immediate, life-threatening danger

That number represents the edge, the fine line between a child who can be saved with urgent treatment and one whose life is at serious risk if help doesn’t arrive in time. This Ramadan campaign transforms that clinical measurement into a global call to act!

This continues HH’s Ramadan tradition of giving, following campaigns like 10 Million Meals, 1 Billion Meals, and the Mothers’ and Fathers’ Endowment programs.

Launched with global partners including UNICEF, Save the Children, CIFF, and Action Against Hunger, the campaign is a message from the UAE: stand in solidarity, act now, save lives.
