UAE Seeks Clarity On Trump’s Proposed Iran Tariffs

The UAE has said it is still seeking clarification on how US President Donald Trump plans to implement proposed tariffs on countries that trade with Iran, and how those measures could affect the Emirates.

Speaking on Tuesday at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, said the details of the announcement remain unclear

“The details of the announcement are not clear,” he said. “We are trying to explore how this is going to be implemented.”

Dr Al Zeyoudi noted that the UAE is Iran’s second-largest trading partner and relies on the country for a range of commodities, particularly food products.

He said the government is assessing whether the proposed tariffs could affect the supply of food imports from Iran, as well as potential impacts on prices for consumers if alternative suppliers are required.

On Monday, President Trump announced that any country conducting business with Iran would face a tariff of 25% on trade with the US

In a statement posted on Truth Social, he said the tariffs would apply to “any and all business being done with the United States of America,” describing the order as “final and conclusive.”

The announcement followed comments by the US President on possible responses to the Iranian government’s suppression of widespread protests.
