The UAE is officially stepping into the future. This March, the country’s first autonomous taxi service will launch, starting in Dubai with 100 fully self-driving vehicles.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum personally tested the service, taking a ride in a Baidu Apollo Go driverless car to the World Governments Summit, demonstrating the hands-off technology in action.
The launch comes as part of a partnership between Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and three major operators: Pony.ai, Uber, and Baidu. The initial fleet of 100 autonomous taxis will make Dubai the first city in the UAE to adopt self-driving vehicles, with plans to expand the service nationwide in the coming years.

Apollo Go has confirmed this is the first time its self-driving service will operate outside China, with ambitions to grow its fleet to over 1,000 vehicles in the UAE. Sheikh Hamdan highlighted that autonomous mobility will make roads smarter, safer, and more efficient, while improving quality of life across the country.
Dubai and the UAE are now officially leading the way toward a fully autonomous transport future.
