UAE Strongly Denies Claims Of ‘Secret Prisons’ In Yemen

The UAE Ministry of Defence has hit back at recent claims of “secret prisons” and hidden weapons at Riyan Airport in Yemen, calling them completely false and misleading.

Minister Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan said the allegations are baseless, stressing that the UAE Armed Forces’ record in Yemen has been transparent and internationally recognised

The Ministry confirmed that all UAE forces officially withdrew from Yemen on 2 January 2026, completing the transfer of equipment, weapons, and assets in line with established military procedures. There is now no Emirati military presence on Yemeni soil.

Regarding the so-called “secret prisons,” the MoD clarified that the facilities at Riyan Airport are standard military accommodation, operations rooms, and fortified shelters, some underground… common features at airports worldwide, with no hidden or nefarious purpose.

The Ministry also highlighted that these allegations appear to be part of a deliberate campaign to mislead public opinion and tarnish the UAE Armed Forces’ reputation, questioning the motives behind spreading such misinformation

The MoD concluded by reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and supporting regional security, while condemning attempts to distort facts and create false narratives.
