Under the new Personal Status Law in the UAE, women can marry without guardian approval, empowering their independence. The new law aligns with international standards of women’s rights.

Also, the legal minimum marriage age was set at 18 for both genders.

Before, Emirati women needed her guardian’s consent to marry

If her father had passed, the next closest male guardian, like her elder brother, had to be present.

The UAE’s reforms show its commitment to family, personal rights and children’s well-being, in line with global standards and different needs.
