These Guys Just Completed A Road Trip From UAE to OMAN Without Using A Single Drop Of Petrol


A road trip from UAE to Oman (and back) just wrapped up last week and it is seriously one for the books.

It took place entirely in electric vehicles – without using a single drop of petrol

Organized by Global EVRT, the 2018 edition of the Electric Vehicle Road Trip (EVRT) Middle East was the second time it took place in this region – and this year’s was even bigger and better than last.

Seriously, we did the math – last year’s was a four day trip with over 40 participants and covered around 700km while this year’s was nine days long with over 60 participants and covered some 2000km.

The trip included driving out into the Abu Dhabi desert to Madinat Zayed before driving to Sohar in Oman and then Muscat.

And we aren’t just throwing the word around when we say it – the trip has left a legacy for the future of electric vehicles in the region…

A network of permanent charging stations have now been established through the route – both in the UAE and Oman

That’s not all, when the convoy reached Ras Al Khamiah Race Track, the first ever EV vs. Petrol drag race was held in the UAE.

The Tesla S85D model was victorious, with three wins to EV by racing legend Doug Herbert and social media celebrity, Alex Hirschi AKA Supercar Blondie, and one win to petrol (pssh, due to a false start)

Then they passed through Umm Al Quwain, Ajman and Sharjah before finally arriving in Dubai.

And hundreds of people including the likes of H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Doug Herbert and Supercar Blondie joined the participants for an event at the finishing line at The Sustainable City in Dubai.

Not too shabby, right?
