A Music -Themes Guide To Dating In Amman

Have you ever wondered how to go about dating in Amman?

Recently, a friend asked me how to ask someone out, so I thought it would be nice to have a conversation about it.

It’s a simple thing that I was kind of surprised to get asked. It seems simple, right? Just ask them out. But I noticed that in Jordan, we don’t really have a crash course when it comes to dating in general. People do date in high school, but it’s kind of facilitated by the fact that you see them at school. If it’s not from school, uni, work, or something where people have to be next to each other for long periods of time, I think I can venture to say that the culture of dating in Jordan is very different than, let’s say, the U.S. or France.

But that doesn’t mean that we have to give up, fall into a romantic wasteland, or become celibate. In the spirit of helping Jordan’s dating scene, here’s a brainstorming session just for me and you:

Before we start, each of the following dating ideas has a mood & vibe that’s too hard to encapsulate with mere words, that’s why we have offered a song suggestion that we at Lovin Amman© believe best translates the feelings:

Date Idea 4: A thousand and one nights in Paris / Song Suggestion: “Le temps de l’amour” by Françoise Hardy

A Parisian retreat date in none other than Paris Circle in Webdeh. Branching down from the circle, and conveniently next to the French language educational center, you’ll find some flowers bursting forth from a series of tiny hole-in-the-wall French restaurants lining the small side road. Of course, you have the tiny little tables made from colorful tiles from Madaba, with cute little nooks and crannies hiding seating for two, while classic French songs softly play in the background. You’ll feel safe sharing who you are; the combination of plants and water features with the soft lighting and amazing food really make you feel like you’re having your quintessential Parisian nighttime stroll.

Date Idea 3: Feel the Rush by going Downtown / Song Suggestion: “Make It Better” by Anderson Paak

Get caught up in the hustle and bustle of downtown Amman as you scour for trinkets to your heart’s content. Downtown Amman has all these places where you can just go and shop around for anything you would like, from tiny flags and memorabilia to old artwork long forgotten. Small necklaces and bands, the whole experience is tailored to finding items that can create new memories.

Date Idea 2: Sushi in the Sky / Song Suggestion: “What You Won’t Do for Love” by Bobby Caldwell

Sushi at Vinaigrette is said so much as a starting date because it works TBH, and there’s a reason. Having a 360-degree view of Amman is pretty cool, and the compartmentalized seating section gives you the privacy necessary to have those deep conversations. Walking through Al-Abdali afterwards, which is so close by, gives you that chance to hang out with that special person and buy all the snacks along the avenue.

Date Idea 1: Running over the Rainbow / Song Suggestion: “I Wanna Be Yours” by Arctic Monkeys

You know that one friend back in high school that you knew and used to go out with but there was that amazing will they / won’t they energy to the whole relationship that it used to fill you with equal amount of fear and excitement? Well, even if you didn’t, running down the streets and alleyways of Rainbow Street and its surrounding area is a lesson in finding the most amazing things in the most unexpected places (Maybe a little like the person you’re taking on this date). From antique bookstores and small mom & pop shops to gelato stands, feel the excitement of discovering Amman street by street as you venture together, maybe feeling like some wild teenagers again.
