America Honors Iraqi Officer for Excellence in Combating Human Trafficking

The Ministry of Interior has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence by winning the top award for combating human trafficking on a global scale. This prestigious honor was awarded to Brigadier Mustafa Reda Al-Yaseri, the current Director of the Ceremonial Division and the former Director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Division.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken presented the first-place award to Brigadier Al-Yaseri in a ceremony held in Washington, D.C., on June 24, 2024. This event, organized annually by the U.S. Department of State, celebrates outstanding contributions from entities and individuals worldwide. This year, winners were selected from 188 countries, highlighting their significant efforts in combating human trafficking.

This accolade recognizes Brigadier Al-Yaseri’s relentless efforts and the substantial support from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, and the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari. Their innovative and sustained work over the past year has been instrumental in addressing the growing issue of human trafficking, reflecting the strategic actions taken by the ministry.

Event organizers commended the efforts of the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Interior. Brigadier Al-Yaseri was celebrated as one of the global heroes in this field, particularly for his role in enhancing coordination between the Ministry of Interior and judicial authorities to combat human trafficking.

Brigadier Al-Yaseri expressed that this award is a significant recognition of Iraq’s international role in fighting crime, protecting human rights, and safeguarding lives. He emphasized that these efforts are not only a moral and ethical duty but also a legal obligation carried out by the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, both locally and internationally, in cooperation with relevant agencies. He highlighted that the division’s advancements are the result of the Minister of Interior’s strategic directives, which have been pivotal in improving performance, developing security tools to combat crime, and reinforcing the rule of law with transparency and respect for human rights.
