Beaches in Hurghada Reopen After Shark Attack Tragedy

Avatar

After a temporary closure due to a recent shark attack, the beaches have finally reopened. However, there are a few areas that are still off-limits, namely the Shaab Al-Sheraton area, the old Sheraton area, and the Sinbad area where the unfortunate incident took place.

The incident occurred last Thursday and tragically resulted in the loss of a Russian national, Popov V.W.

As a precautionary measure, the authorities initially closed all the beaches in the vicinity from Gouna to the north of Hurghada and Soma Bay to the south for a two-day period starting from Friday.

Unfortunately, This isn’t the first time such incidents have occurred in the area. Just last year, two women lost their lives in separate shark attacks off the coast of Hurghada. In 2020, there was another unfortunate attack where a Ukrainian boy lost an arm, and an Egyptian tour guide lost a leg.

To ensure everyone’s safety, the statement from the Red Sea Governorate emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines. Beachgoers are urged to stick to the designated areas that have been deemed safe for swimming. If you’re into marine activities like diving or snorkeling, make sure to do so only in the assigned sites.

So, while you can now enjoy the beautiful beaches in Hurghada, it’s crucial to stay mindful and take necessary precautions to have a fun and safe time in the water.
