Cabinet: “No Amendments To Power Reduction Timing During Ramadan”

The official spokesman of the Egyptian Cabinet Mohamed Al-Hommosany denied rumors circulating on social media claiming that power reduction timing will be cut to one hour instead of the usual two during the holy month of Ramadan.

He explained that so far, there has been no time lowering for the power reduction initiative due to the month of Ramadan.

Al Hommosany also added that if there’s any new information, the cabinet will make an official announcement.

The government initially established this plan of load reductions in place in July 2023, as a result of the increased electricity consumption due to heat waves that seared across Egypt last summer.

The plan involved cutting off electricity throughout the country to reduce daily consumption, which had risen to up to 36 gigawatts.

Additionally, the cabinet has recently changed the schedule of the power reduction initiative to be moved from 11 am to 5 pm for the exam season.

However, that timing was recently updated after the exam season ended.

The Ministry of Electricity officials reportedly plan that the electricity load reduction initiative in Egypt will continue until March due to a decrease in fuel supplied to production stations aiming to benefit from gas exports during the coming months.
