Egypt Will Send 5,000 Seasonal Farmers To Greece… And It’s Sparking Public Debate

According to Reuters, Egypt decided to send 5,000 seasonal farmers to Greece in order to help with the farmers shortage in the European country.

This decision comes after the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2022 on the employment of seasonal workers in the agricultural sector and aeronautical and maritime search and rescue.

The Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the MoU was signed with full respect for international law and by the provisions of the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

The goal of the memorandum is to create a framework of cooperation between Egypt and Greece, in order to protect precious lives from danger.

The memorandum also stresses the diversity in cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, security, and military sectors.

Recently, the Egyptian government announced the sending of 5,000 seasonal farmers to Greece. At the same time, the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs announced a discussion about expanding the agreement to also include tourism and construction workers.

However, the news of the migration of Egyptian workers was met with disappointment from Egyptian social media users, as many of them urged the Egyptian government to utilize Egyptian workers and enhance agricultural practices in Egypt.
