In The Wake Of Haniyeh’s Assassination; Egypt Condemned Israel’s Escalation Policy And Warned Of Its Grave angers
In the wake of Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination, Egypt condemned Israel’s escalation policy and warned of its grave dangers
Senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated early on Wednesday, at approximately 2 AM in Tehran, Iran. Haniyeh was in Iran to attend the inauguration of the new Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian. Hamas reported that the leader was assassinated in a war veteran residence in the Iranian capital.
The Palestinian resistance group said in a statement that the hit on Haniyeh threatens the region, a region that is already shaken by the war in Gaza and a deepening conflict in Lebanon.
Although Israel has yet to claim responsibility for Haniyeh’s assassination, the Government Press Office(GPO) released an image of Haniyeh with the word “Eliminated” plastered on the martyr’s forehead and quickly deleted it after an hour.
In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement condemning Israel’s continued policy of escalation and warned of the consequences of the policy of assassinations and violating the states’ sovereignties.
Egypt considered that this dangerous escalation warns of the dangers of igniting confrontation in the region in a way that would lead to dire security consequences, warning of the consequences of the policy of assassinations, violating the sovereignty of other countries, and fueling conflict in the region.
Egypt called upon the Security Council and internationally influential powers to assume their responsibility to stop this dangerous escalation in the Middle East, prevent the security situation in the region from getting out of control, and put an end to the policy of brinkmanship.
The Arab Republic of Egypt considered that the coincidence of this regional escalation, with the lack of progress in the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, increases the complexity of the situation indicates the absence of the Israeli political will for calm, and undermines the strenuous efforts made by Egypt and its partners to stop the war in the Gaza Strip and put an end to it for the human suffering of the Palestinian people.
