The Assitant Minister of Local Development and the official ministry spokesperson, Dr Khaled Qasim stated on a DMC evening program that shop owners must comply with the specified closing timings.
Violators may face a fine of EGP4,000
He also stated that shops operating without a license would be closed until one is obtained. The reason why shops must close at the same time is to rationalise electricity consumption.
All shops and malls must close by 11pm on weekdays and 12am on weekends. restaurants, cafes, and bazaars (whether in a mall or not) can remain open until 1am.
Qasim also stated that authorities are working round the clock to ensure all shop owners are following the directives.
