Widespread Concern … New Fuel Prices Trigger Frustration Among Egyptians
The expected fuel price increase has been delayed for a long period, however, that delay did not soften the blow on Egyptians.
The Fuel Pricing Committee(FPC), has announced the new increases in fuel prices, and Egyptians were short of concerned, anxious, and agitated.
The price of 80-octane fuel is now EGP 11 instead of 10 per liter, and the price of 92-octane fuel is now EGP 12.5 instead of 11.5, and the price of 95-octane is now EGP 13.5 instead of 12.5 per liter. Additionally, the committee also increased the price of diesel and gas cylinders. Diesel is now 1.75, reaching egp 10 instead of 8.25, and gas cylinders are now priced at EGP 100 instead of 75.
Egyptians are particularly worried about the surge in diesel prices, as it indicates an increase in the prices of basic commodities that citizens consume every day, along with an increase in transportation costs.
The Fuel Pricing Committee indicated that the price surge matches the global prices.
