In Zimbabwe, a real estate developer is using shipping containers to construct a shopping centre in the style of Qatar’s Stadium 974, which was used for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Kudzanayi Bus Terminal Plaza (KBT Plaza), the most recent project by Bentach Resources in Gweru, was built with the use of several shipping containers.
Using 974 shipping containers to reflect Qatar’s international dialling code, Stadium 974 was built. The innovative facility was constructed entirely out of repurposed shipping containers, which allowed officials to take it down after the World Cup.
“We have created cubical shops from shipping containers. We were inspired by Stadium 974 built in Doha, Qatar for the 2022 World Cup and thought of putting up a shopping mall in Gweru that is made up of shipping containers,” said Bentach Resources project manager, David Kudakwashe in the announcement.
The business is currently finishing up the retail centre made of sturdy steel boxes, which will give more than 50 small-scale vendors in Gweru a respectable market place.
More than 60 shipping containers are being used to build the shopping centre. Two stories will eventually be present in the mall. Roll-up doors, sliding glass doors, restrooms, kitchenettes, and other designated rooms were included as special additions to the establishments.
