He was found in Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital in Dubai

Mohamed-Joseph Chauvin (known by the name Mehdi) is a 25-year-old french man who disappeared nine days ago. His mother, Fabienne, took to social media to ask for help for her missing son. He was suffering from mental health issues and had recently experienced psychotic episodes.

Mehdi came on a visit-visa to Dubai from Doha. He had moved to Qatar from France in December, after admitting to his family that he was battling depression. He was due to return back to Doha but he never boarded the plane.

Since losing contact with Mehdi, his family starting posting messages on Facebook groups appealing for information about their missing son

According to The National, a doctor from Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital saw the social media post of a lady about the disappearance of Mehdi and recognized him. The doctor identified Mehdi as he had just been recently admitted to the hospital. He contacted the lady who in turn informed Mehdi’s mother.

When he was admitted to the hospital by the authorities, Mehdi was unable to reach out and inform them about where he was because of his state of mind. Now that he is found safe and unharmed, what a relief it must be for Mehdi’s family.

Kudos to the power of social media and the compassionate strangers whose activism allowed Mehdi to be found!
