August 15, 2021 marks India’s 75th independence day!! The UAE of course, home to many Indian expats, lit up the Burj Khalifa in celebration. The Burj illuminated in the tricolours of the flag from 8:10 PM local time.
Promise, this won’t turn into a history lesson, unless you’re up for it but basically on August 15, 1947 the British rule ended in India and the nation became independent. This is a national holiday in India.

According to the Population Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the largest ethnic community in the UAE are Indian expats, constituting roughly 30% of the country’s population. They make up about 3.42 million people in the UAE.
So of course the celebrations have to be cast on the biggest screen, aka the Burj Khalifa.
