A special one-off Emirates flight to Colombo in Sri Lanka became the first commercial A380 visit the island’s airport on Monday.
To celebrate the Bandaranaike International Airport’s upgraded runway, Emirates operated an A380 on the route normally serviced by a Boeing 777.
Ministers and VIPs were aboard the flight, which received the traditional water-welcome.
“This one-off flight reflects the strong relationship we have with the market and our commitment to the destination. It signifies that, when demand for the destination grows, as it definitely will, to the point that scheduled A380 flights are feasible, Emirates will be ready to operate one.”
