RTA Is Raising The Minimum Age Requirement To Ride E-Scooters To 16

If you’re an e-scooter rider, you may want to hear this. The minimum age for riding electronic scooters across the city will soon be raised to 16 years and would be effective in the first quarter of 2022.

A senior official with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed the announcement to Gulf News, adding that once legislation about the new move is approved – the change should be effective as soon as possible.

Previously, the minimum age requirement had been 14 years old – so this move will increase the safety of e-scooter riders and other motorists

OG e-scooter riders will know that these age requirements have already been enforced in the five main approved scooter trial zones, complete with signs, instructions and details.

In the order issued on March 23, 2020, it states that riders must be at least 14 years of age to ride an e-scooter (except in pilot areas designed by RTA, where the minimum age is now at 16).
