In an unexpected turn of events, a male passenger was arrested for smoking mid-air during a Dubai-Mumbai IndiGo flight. The incident has raised concerns about in-flight safety protocols.
Following the investigation, a consumed cigarette was discovered in the lavatory, prompting the airline’s staff to inquire why the passenger had chosen to smoke. The crew members questioned him after he willingly handed over a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.
As per the official, as soon as the flight landed in Mumbai, a case was registered at Sahar Police Station under the section 336 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for endangering life or personal safety of others and Section 25 of the Aircraft Rules. This led to the subsequent arrest of the individual involved.
This is not the first case of passenger being caught smoking cigarettes inside the flight. In March 2023, another incident unfolded at Bengaluru airport, where a female passenger was arrested for smoking during an IndiGo flight originating from Kolkata. Subsequently, a legal action was taken against her for jeopardizing the well-being of passengers and violating safety regulations.
