The UAE Announced New Laws And Fines Up To AED1 Million Regarding Healthcare

The UAE Government has implemented new laws to govern the healthcare profession

The new regulations include fines of up to AED1 million. Those who practise healthcare without a licence or submit false documents to get a licence may lead to imprisonment and fines ranging from AED50,000 to AED100,000. In addition, a healthcare facility could be shut down entirely if its found to be operated by a single person.

The law will regulate the practice of non-doctor and non-pharmacist roles in nursing, laboratories, physiotherapy, aesthetics, anaesthesia, audiology, and radiology. No one is allowed to practice a health profession unless duly authorised. License applicants must hold recognised qualifications, display good conduct, and be medically fit to perform their professional duties.

A national medical register will be set up for licensed medical professionals in the country and it will be done at the Ministry of Health and Prevention

It is important to note that healthcare professionals are prohibited from selling or promoting medicines to patients. They also may not direct patients to purchase medication from a particular pharmacy.

Tho who practice the profession without a licence, but meet the conditions to obtain one, may face fines ranging from AED10,000 to AED100,000 for unauthorised practice.

A manager or director of a healthcare facility who violates the law may face fines ranging from AED1,000 to AED500,000 and a temporary suspension of their medical license.

Facilities found violating the regulations may face fines from AED1,000 to AED1 million and it may be shut down temporarily or permanently, depending on the violation.

 

Amid changes, amendments have been made regarding veterinary facilities, expertise requirements and allowing foreign investment

Updates have been made regarding the level of expertise that’s required for the licensing of Emirati veterinarians and fresh grads to pursue the profession. In addition, veterinarians and assisted medical professionals are exempted from certain fees.

Changes have also been made to allow foreign entrepreneurs and investors to establish and own veterinary facilities. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has established a national register for veterinarians, practitioners and assistants authorised to practice in the country.
