A UAE Domestic Worker Receives Legal Help After Violating Residency Laws

Talk about UAE’s kindness! A domestic worker in the country received crucial legal assistance after breaching residency laws.

MOHRE shared Irene’s story to highlight the significance of rectifying one’s residency status in the UAE

Irene, a dedicated domestic worker, unintentionally violated foreign entry and residence laws due to her lack of knowledge. Consequently, she was unable to either return to work or leave her place of residence.

Providing some context, Irene found herself in a challenging situation with her son’s future hanging in the balance. She was unable to secure the necessary funds to support her son’s education.

In search of guidance, Irene reached out to a friend residing in the UAE. Her friend suggested that she could potentially earn a higher salary by working elsewhere, as compared to her current family.

Irene followed her friend’s advice to escape from the family she worked for, believing it was the only way to help her son…

What Irene didn’t know is that her friend’s advice led to trouble. She couldn’t work, go out, or get support as she was living illegally.

She said,

The promises made by my friend were just words. I ended up living in the country illegally. Can’t work, can’t go out, no support. I was lonely.

But after several of months, Irene decided to deal with her legal status properly

She turned herself in to the authorities, who appreciated her courage, and they subsequently resolved her situation.

MOHRE is urging the public to avoid violating the residency law and rectifying your legal status as soon as possible

They said,

Because your peace of mind and happiness are our top priorities, it is essential to comply with labour and residency laws, and we are fully prepared to offer support to ensure your legal status and wellbeing.

Today, MOHRE and UAEICP unveiled the #SuccessfulBusinessHappyResidence campaign, aimed at emphasizing the significance of regularising residency status in the UAE.
