Dubai’s 2030 Blueprint: 25% Of Buildings To Be 3D-Printed!

When does Dubai not have big plans, right? By 2030, they’re 3D-printing a quarter of their buildings – that’s some serious forward-thinking!

What is Dubai’s 3D printing strategy?

Dubai’s 3D printing strategy will span across construction, medical items, and consumer products, focusing on key areas in each sector.

In construction, 3D printing for various components like lights, bases, foundations, joints, facilities, parks, homes, galleries, and stores is projected to drive the sector’s value to AED 3 billion in Dubai by 2025, as reported by the state news agency WAM.

Moreover, under the new Dubai regulations, any organization looking to engage in 3D printing activities within the sector must initiate the registration process with Dubai Municipality and secure a license before proceeding to seek additional approvals from other relevant authorities.

What are the advantages of constructing 3D-printed structures?

  • It will minimize the need for labour in construction
  • Decrease waste production and the environmental impact
  • Speed up the construction process
  • Promote the advancement of worldwide technology, potentially revolutionising the construction industry

This strategy is part of plans to achieve global leadership in future innovations

UAE Vice President and and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said:

The UAE is presenting to the world today the first integrated and comprehensive strategy to exploit 3D technology to serve humanity. We have also framed practical plans and precise goals to turn the strategy into reality, the reality that will contribute to the progress and prosperity of the world and help preserve our human heritage.

In case you weren’t aware, 3D-printed buildings are already a reality in the Emirate…

For instance, back in 2021, Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach hosted a unique Dior installation, using an innovative 3D printing system by WASP in just 120 hours!

It doesn’t stop there… The Office of the Future is another example!

By Killa Design, the printer, with its automated robotic arm, was installed on-site in just two days and completed the 17-day printing process. How impressive!

Looking ahead, Dubai, for example, has already unveiled plans earlier this year to create the world’s inaugural fully operational 3D-printed mosque.
