In mid-August, Dubai Municipality issued a circular to hotels highlighting swimming pool safety. They stated that adults must accompany children and that children under the age of 5 are not allowed to use adult swimming pools under any circumstances.

However, Dubai Municipality made a change to the use of swimming pools in Dubai hotels.

Children under 5 years old will be allowed to use the main swimming pools in hotels as long as the safety checks are in place

Firstly, hotels must ensure a sufficient number of lifeguards on duty and in ratio to the pool area and number of users. Lifeguards must have adequate qualifications and training.

As for children under 5 who wish to use the main pool, they must be wearing a swim vest and accompanied by their guardian or parents

The circular from the Environmental Health Section of the Health and Safety Department of the civic body informed all hotels to encourage children to remain in the shallow area of the pools.
