3 Alternatives To Skype In The UAE That You May Not Have Thought Of

Avatar

Skype was acting up over the holidays and this week we got the official nod from both Skype, Etisalat and Du that the handy communications app was blocked in the UAE. Alternatives to Skype can change on a regular basis in the UAE but these 3 tools will be a great help.

Unlicenced Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Services, or free online calling services, are not supported in the UAE, so here are your alternatives…

(Etisalat and Du ARE offering unlimited calling services – Botim and C’Me – but full access comes with a fee)

Here are three options:

1. BOTIM – Unblocked Video Call and Voice Call

This one has been recommended by Etisalat, it’s free to download but you need to subscribe to an unlimited calling plan for either AED50 or AED100 depending if it’s a subscription for your mobile or your home. There are reports of connection disruption, so jury is out whether it’s worth the price tag.

Another option recommended by both Etisalat and Du, this allows you to call, video message and video call your friends at a cost.

3. Videolink2.me

This is a really useful link and the beauty is you can set it up in no time. Just send the link to the person you want to video chat and you’re good to go. One of the best alternatives To Skype.
