An incident that took place at Dubai Airport saw three Arab tourists being sentenced to a month in prison for attempting to travel with counterfeit Schengen visas to a European country from Dubai.

The two men were arrested by a civil aviation employee who discovered the forgery and barred the men from proceeding to the security check-in. According to local news platforms, the two individuals were then referred to the Public Prosecution and the Criminal Court, along with the third person who helped them in the execution of the crime.

Reports claim that the two defendants paid AED25,000 each to the third accused – to obtain the visa – and denied any and all awareness of the visa fraud

The defendants explained that they each paid the “equivalent of AED25,000 in the currency of their countries to obtain the two visas from an unknown person who convinced them to come to the UAE, transfer power of attorney to him so that he could make them the visas, and then travel onward to Europe.”

Both the travellers explained how they were received in Dubai by the third accused in the case. Both were then placed in hotels where the third culprit took their passport and brought them back with the visas stamped a day before the scheduled travel date.

Reports reveal that the third accused also denied knowledge of the forgery as he claimed to have arrived in Dubai on a visit visa and then followed instructions given by a friend of his who asked him to “receive the first and second defendants, rent a hotel for them, and receive an envelope from them containing their passports and hand it over to an unknown person.”

Investigations conducted by the Public Prosecution confirmed that all parties were involved in forging an unofficial document forging a Schengen visa, which was then used in an attempt to leave the country. The three Arab men will be deported post serving their one-month sentence.
