This Non-Profit Initiative Is Helping Feed Thousands Across Khartoum

Due to the ongoing conflict that is ravaging across Sudan, over 2.5 million Sudanese individuals are currently at risk of dying from hunger by this September. As the country continues to battle with the ongoing crises, pleas for help have gone unnoticed, and as a result, homegrown efforts have began to take matters into their hands to feed the hungry, and nurture the spirit of compassion and solidarity in Sudan.

The humanitarian crisis has left a staggering number of 19 million people facing extreme levels of hunger, as reported by the World Food Programme

As Sudan continues to battle one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises with the ongoing war, the stark reality has called for urgent attention and action. The Khartoum Aid Kitchen initiative was put together to help alleviate hunger and help aid the most vulnerable members of our society in the greater Khartoum area.

Making a difference one meal at a time

The journey of the Khartoum Aid Kitchen initiative began with a single kitchen in Al Hitana Omdurman. With dedication and determination, the project quickly gained momentum, feeding 1,250 people daily – after recognising the urgent need for more aid, the project began to expand its operations, setting up multiple kitchens across Khartoum with the help of resistance committees.

As of right now, the initiative operates ten fully-fledged kitchens, alongside supporting two partner kitchens, catering to the nutritional needs of thousands in the community – each one playing a crucial role in the fight against hunger in Sudan.

The battle against hunger is far from over

Khartoum Aid Kitchen currently uses donations from individuals across the world to continue its vital work in Sudan – These donations have enabled them to continue establishing new kitchens, reach more vulnerable individuals, and make a lasting impact on the lives of those in need.

A GoFundMe has been set up in April, with a fundraising goal of 200,000GDP thus far, in order to continue standing in solidarity with the resilient people of the country.
