Fun Activities You Need To Try In 2016

Avatar

It’s the new year so you’re probably busy making promises of how this year is going to be different. You’re going to choose a salad instead of fries, (but not on the weekends), you’re going to take the stairs instead of the lift, (unless you’re in a rush) and you’re definitely going to stick to that punishing gym routine you’ve got planned (as long as work isn’t too manic).

Instead of making promises (let’s face it) that you probably won’t keep, why not buck the trend and try something a little bit different this year? Here are some fun things to try in the new year…that won’t bore you to tears.

Sick of spin classes? Try Aquabiking…

Ever tried spinning? Well this is spinning Xtreme; a spin class inside a pool. Each 45 minute class will have you discover muscles you never knew existed in a seriously intense workout that leaves you feeling refreshed and invigorated. In a good workout you’ll lose between 500-700 calories…where do we sign up?!

How much? AED 125 for a single 45-minute discovery class.

Where? Al Wasl Road

Meet new people at Touch Rugby…

If you lack motivation there’s nothing to get you going like a team sport. Touch rugby is a social, non-contact ball sport that is similar to Rugby Union for both men and women. Not only is this great fun, it’s also a great way to meet new people.

How much? Winter Season 350 AED (January to March)

Chill out at SUP Yoga

That’s Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga to you and me. Unfortunately this is not as easy or as chilled as it looks, however, if you want to be a pro you’ve got to start somewhere. Try this to improve your health, fitness and even balance. Hey, even if you don’t like it, you’ll get some amazing pics.

How much? Prices start at AED 125 for 1hr 30m lesson

Where? The Sofitel on the Palm (taking part in a class does include access to the hotels’s facilities)

Check out this SUP Yoga website, these lessons are suitable for die-hard yoga fans and newbies alike. There’s a pilates option too if that floats your boat instead.

Try an Aerial Silks workout…

Have you ever imagined yourself swinging gracefully on silk, performing loops and shapes effortlessly? Well, now’s your chance to learn how to pull it off without falling on your head. At this spot you can try aerial fitness, pole fitness, aerial hoop and pole for men too…get out of your comfort zone and try something new this year!

Try a Physique 57 workout…

This is a barre-based workout (looks pretty similar to ballet) that incorporates cardio, strength training and stretching…with the main purpose being to sculpt your body. The website says you will see results in as little as eight workouts. If this is the real deal we definitely want to try it.

How much? AED 130 for one class

Visit the Al Qudra Lakes…

Located beside the Al Qudra cycling track, between the Seih Al Salam desert and Bab Al Shams, these man-made lakes were part of a green initiative to enrich that part of the desert. Home to over 100 bird species and with ample space for camping this is perfect for a night away from the city. This is the ideal place for camping newbies; you don’t have to travel far from Dubai and the driving is easy so you don’t need a 4×4 to find a nice camping spot.

Try hiking part of Jebel Jais…

The UAE’s highest peak, Jebel Jais stands at nearly 2,000 metres tall and is a steep, challenging climb for the adventurous ones amongst us. For those of you who aren’t up for the climb, the Jebel Jais Mountain Road around the jebel has become a tourist spot in it’s own right for drivers, sightseers and athletes alike. The road doesn’t take you right to the top (the last 4.8 km is still rubble) but the scenery is still incredibly beautiful from the highest point.

How much? Free to climb; getting there costs are your own
