Many Saudis headed to Russia this year in a bid to watch their home side play in what is one of the biggest sporting events in the world. But for one Saudi fan, the ordeal proved to be rather dreadful.

According to Arabian Business, a Saudi football fan has reportedly been swindled out of the equivalent of $250,000 in Russia.

He reported it to the Russian police and the suspect is believed to be a Lebanese man.

The Lebanese conman reportedly told the Saudi man that he would arrange a flight from Moscow to Volgograd for him and his friends. Saudi Arabia was due to play Egypt in their final group stage match in Volgograd.

The Saudi man duly handed over the money him in two installments 110,000 dollars and 120,000 euros (140,000 dollars) in Moscow on the 24th of June.

The Russian authorities are currently on the look out for the suspect who is believed to be aged 49 or 50.
