Herve Renard Makes Epic Comeback As Head Coach Of Saudi National Team

Surprise, Saudi football fans! Herve Renard, the charismatic French coach, is back in charge of the Saudi Arabia national team, as announced by the Saudi Football Federation.

Saudi’s team dropped the big news with a simple yet powerful, “He’s back,” in a video posted on their X account

Cue the excitement!

Back by popular demand, this marks Renard’s second time leading the Green Falcons. He became a national hero during the 2022 World Cup when he coached Saudi Arabia to an unforgettable 2-1 victory over Argentina,  the team that would go on to become champions.

In March last year, he stepped down to answer a call from his own country and coach the French women’s national team

After a solid stint, which included a quarter-final run in the Paris Olympics, Renard exited his role this past August. The return of Renard couldn’t have come at a better time. Italian coach Roberto Mancini took over after Renard’s departure but saw a challenging stretch, with taking on Saudi Arabia’s World Cup qualifying campaigns.

In his reintroduction video, Renard got personal: “I did not intend to leave Saudi. But when your country knocks on your door, you have to respond. My connection with Saudi, the fans, the players, and all the memories — I can never forget. I did not finish my story with Saudi.”

Renard’s new contract runs until the end of 2025, with an option to extend through the 2027 Asian Cup, which will be hosted in Saudi Arabia for the very first time
