This incredible milestone celebrates the ongoing success of the reserve’s rewilding program, which was launched just last year as part of a broader ecological restoration initiative under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
As Andrew Zaloumis, CEO of the Reserve, shared in a recent press release, “The birth of the reserve’s 15th oryx is a milestone in our conservation work and our contribution to the regional conservation effort to establish sustainable wild populations of this culturally iconic Arabian species across its native terrain.”
With sustained conservation and reintroduction efforts, the species has been reclassified as “vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List, a testament to the effectiveness of these rewilding programs.
This latest calf is a symbol of hope for the species and an inspiring example of the reserve’s commitment to both Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative. It’s proof that with the right conservation efforts, endangered species can be brought back from the brink.
